BIOGRAPHY EDWARD VAN DE VENDEL was born on a midsummer's day in a little town in the heart of The Netherlands. As a boy, he dreamt of being a footballplayer or a famous singer: he became a teacher of an elementary school in stead. He loved this profession so much that, together with some colleagues, he founded a new school. He became its headmaster, but slowly another love took over: the love for words. He started writing poetry and in 1996 the publishing house of Querido, Amsterdam issued his first volume. Since then more books kept coming. Now Edward is a fulltime writer, living in Rotterdam. His works include novels for young adults, prose for starting readers, texts for picture books, poetry for all ages and even non-fiction. He also writes songlyrics for some artists. Three of his books were awarded with the Golden Kiss (best book for adolescents), two books with a Silver Pencil (best book for children) and one with the Woutertje Pieterse Prize (Critic's Choice for best literary book of the year). Rights of his books were sold to Germany, Italy, France, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain. In the year 2005 Edward wrote the giftbook for the dutch children's books week.
